Simple Night at Home

I'm becoming quite fond of our new evening routine.

Tonight Patrick and I fixed dinner together, he at the grill cooking chicken, I at the stove stirring up some rice and vegetables. We ate on the balcony watching the tropical sun dip behind big storm clouds blowing over from the Dominican, hovering over the mountains and illuminated with splashes of pinks and golds from the setting son. The sun glowed amber as it tucked behind our palm tree vista, disappearing into the watery horizon somewhere beyond the concrete roof-tops.

After dinner, we head into the "family room" for Mr. Solomon's favorite time of the day. His latest bout of diarrhea mixed with hot sweaty days has created a bit of a diaper rash, thus necessitating a little naked time. And boy does he love to be naked. No matter how sleepy or grumpy Solomon might be, he comes alive in the nakedness and kicks, grabs his toes, smiles and squeals. We work on tummy time, rolling over (almost) and sitting all in this magical naked time. He is all gummy smiles. Then he and Daddy have a shower together which he loves just as much. After a hot day, Solomon doesn't seem at all to mind the cool shower; he smiles and kicks in the gentle waterfall, so much so Patrick has to get a death grip on his meaty thigh.

Then the hand-off to mommy who medicates, lotions and diapers. Tonight I left him on the bed after getting him all ready for night-night to grab a burp rag. By the time I got back (seconds) he was falling asleep. :)

He did have a big day today at CONASPEH. Everyone missed him during his sick-leave, so he subsequently got passed around like a Christmas Ham.

With Solomon in dreamland a room away, Patrick and I are enjoying a little quiet time. I'm sipping on a glass of wine, Patrick shoots nerf, and has turned on the grainy tv (with no cable or antenna) onto the one sports station that plays NBA basketball. I actually don't mind at all because every 10 minutes they break into music videos which are hysterical. Its the perfect sports station for the two of us. When the basketball is on, I read a few pages in my book. When the dance music interrupts the sports forecast, I"m entertained, and Patrick studies creole. :)

So a crazy night at the Bentrott's. Wish you were here.
